That said, the wiki will remain fully functional and I will soon be resetting it for the next round of job searches. The main change is that it will no longer be possible to post links to copies of job ads in the forum; instead, the links will have to be to other websites where the ads are posted (APA, APS, Chronicle, HigherEdJobs, etc.).

Do you think the offer of a "tenure-track position" to new faculty members at small rural SLACs (without extremely high endowments)
is really tenable? Is it realistic to believe that many of these schools will be around in 15-20 years with the rise of online learning,
etc.. Should junior faculty count on this tenure-track or should they be skeptical?

Thank again for visiting with us and for your nice seminar. We concluded the on-campus interviews and the decision is now with the Department head and the Dean. I assume you will hear back from them within two weeks.

One week has passed but no news, feel very nervous…

No word from SC (aside from saying there would be a delay in hiring decision, which is fairly normal) for several months. I read on the wiki that a job had been offered and accepted (congrats to the new hire!), so figured as a campus invitee I would receive word from SC chair at some point. Several weeks passed, and I heard nothing — until Monday, when I received a canned email from HR saying that I was "not selected for this job." This notification was only surprising given that I was a shortlisted candidate, had met the department, etc. BUT what do I know.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Is it normal to be rejected after a campus visit in this way? As I said, I have zero hard feelings either way, just hoping to get a sense of the regularity with which this occurs. Thanks!

I am applying for a job for which the ad itself requests a specific list of materials (cover letter, CV, example pubs, list of references). When I signed on to submit my application different materials are requested (teaching & research statement, a list of publications (not actual manuscripts). I'm assuming I go with what is requested on the HR website. There is no contact information to ask. Any thoughts?

In prior years, it did not require a sign-in and an account to post something in the forum, and discussion and information sharing was open and lively. Every post had multiple responses and people shared what they knew about the status of searches that often were not updated on the main page due to lack of anonymity there. Everyone could remain fully anonymous and this site used to provide so much information on both searches and professional issues.

This year, a sign-in is required. The lack of information exchange as a result of this is striking. Most requests for information about searches have no responses. Many advice posts have only a few responses. There hasn't been a single post in the general discussion section in over a month. The requirement to sign-in to post has changed the wiki and the usefulness of the page. It has made people less comfortable with posting and sharing information. Open exchange of information is the very reason this site was created but it isn't really happening anymore due to the loss of complete anonymity.

Can it be changed back to the way it used to be to open the flow of information again?
