						 <p>Yes, people should really take some of this despair with a grain of salt. Many of the people listing here may be applying to top R1 schools with only a post-doc record, no K awards, etc. It's going to be VERY difficult to get into a top school with that kind of record.<br /> People are getting jobs&#8230;.it may not be your dream job, but you have to start somewhere. Unless you like the miserable pay that a post-doc offers :-)</p>

						 <p>To all social people who posted here:</p> <p>Given your publication record, did you apply to schools like USC, Oregon, Maryland, Dartmouth, Harvard, U-Chicago, Brown, Texas A &amp; M, Wisconsin, Willamette, Ohio, Ohio State, Boston College, Denver, Toronto, Penn State? Or you considered and applied to Masters level institutions/SLACs as well? All of you have a really outstanding publication record, so maybe Slacs/masters levels schools would have offered you TT positions&#8230;</p>
