I took a year off during my PhD for maternity leave (in Canada, 1 year is standard), during which time I was 'prohibited' from work affiliated with my school. I've been back for a year, and will be applying for jobs and post-docs in the next few months. I've got my momentum back and am submitting papers for publication, but I wonder if I should explain the gap in my publications by including my leave on my CV? I'm worried though that labeling myself as a parent to a young child might create more problems than it solves.
Have you seen maternity leave or other longer leave periods listed on CVs? What is your opinion about this practice?
