Does anyone know if the "request for letters" is something that happens after a long/short list is created?
Hopefully, but I'm not sure. Looks like I got the same email as you.
Got the same email. I feel that it is some kind of pre-selection process, otherwise why bother with such a procedure. It is also rather unusual to ask for hard copy letterS in addition to electronic… It is strange, though, that this was not mention anywhere in the ad…
good luck to all!
Both the job ads (cog neuro and cog positions) note that references will be contacted electronically after submission. The due date hasn't even arrived yet. Unfortunately at this point it's very likely NOT a preselection/short-list. Many universities use systems like this with the automatic request and upload immediately after submission.
Hi everyone,
A colleague of mine alerted me to this site and the confusion about the requirements for letters for these UIUC job positions. There apparently was some administrative mixup when the job advertisements were posted. We do need letters with your application. If you submitted your materials a while back, you should have received an email in the past week or so requesting your letters. If you're just submitting your materials now, you should automatically get the request for letters (the mixup should have been fixed). Please go ahead and have your letter writers to submit their letters, and sorry for the confusion.
Best,
Dan
