I have seen past threads about contacting search chairs, and there seems to be two dissenting views: 1) sit tight and don't contact SC or 2) contact them only if you have a good reason to.
My situation: a few weeks ago a SC contacted me to express interest in my application and to ask a few questions. Haven't heard anything since that conversation and I've since wanted to elaborate on my answers and contact him. In addition, he will be at a conference I will be attending soon and I considered sharing with him that I would be there as well.
So in this situation, would you contact? Or just sit tight? Is it poor form to mention the upcoming conference or suggest meeting there?
I am learning from this wiki that there are all sorts of unspoken rules and etiquette in academic searches and I don't want to break any.
