I have a campus interview coming up soon at a school that has been my #1 since the moment I applied. I'm (pleasantly) surprised that I've made it as far as I have in this process, since, to me, this school is the absolute best fit.
By the end of next week, I will have had half dozen other interviews, and I even received an offer before Christmas. I declined the offer, partly because I REALLY had to see what was going to happen with this #1 choice (but also partly because the package was terrible and the faculty seemed miserable). I guess what I'm saying is, this isn't a place I want just because it's the only one that has gotten back to me.
So, how odd is it to tell an institution that they are your top pick? Thus far in my interactions, I've made obligatory comments about what a great fit it is (but it IS!) and how great and unique their programs are (but they ARE!). The thing is, I'd probably say most of those things to any University that I wanted a crack at. Do these type of statements even matter? Do they all seem empty and worthless? Is it too cloying to even mention that this would be my dream job?
This whole process is far too similar to dating :/
