I just got back from a campus interview in the northern US where I insisted on wearing my favourite black pumps with my favourite grey skirt suit. I thought my black boots looked frumpy with the skirt and figured I would brave the weather. Fast forward to the visit: I almost killed myself several times during the campus tour, which lasted 45 minutes while I teetered/skated around the icy campus in my pathetic choice of footwear.
So…I have another campus interview in Canada this coming week where it will be cold and snowy. I need to wear my skirt suit as it's my only really professional outfit that I feel truly confident in. Should I: A) wear my mid-calf black boots with the skirt suit and look a bit frumpy, but be prepared for the snow, B) wear boots but keep changing into/out of my heels as I move indoors/outdoors, or C) buy new boots specifically to match the suit (I'd rather not?
