hi all. new to these boards but think that the advice here is great
anyone have good suggestions about what kind of questions to ask vs. not to ask during an interview for a visiting assistant professor (VAP) position at a top liberal arts college? in most interviews they ask you questions but then turn it over to you for what you want to know about the dept/school/position/etc..
i did one on campus interview for a tenure-track (TT) position and i think the questions that i asked then were pretty good even though they didnt pick me. however, given this is a one year position and they have already said its not just a replacement for a sabbatical person. they said theyre asking for a TT line in the same area, so i really wonder if i could transition from VAP to TT at the same place. earlier posts seem to show it is a 50-50 shot maybe. but i am worried about asking the wrong thing! how do i find out if this is a possibility without assuming i got the VAP and that their TT line will come through…? also, they have a VAP in the same area, so does he just win bc of seniority?
also, are there VAP-specific questions i am likely to get asked in addition to the ones that i got asked on my TT interviews…?
