The Department of Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking to hire two tenure-track assistant professors whose general areas of specialty are in social psychology, to complement current faculty, whose research includes mindfulness, social cognition, attitudes, and close relationships, much of which relates to the broader theme of well-being. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in social psychology, or a closely related discipline; evidence of success in publishing their work; and demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU. Teaching and research interests in social psychology are open, but applicants with strong quantitative and/or methodological skills or whose research program incorporates biological perspectives are particularly welcome to apply. The successful hires will be required to have an established research agenda and potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the department.
There is opportunity (and some expectation) to collaborate with colleagues in the Psychology Department and/or with other disciplines and schools at the university. The positions will involve teaching at both the undergraduate and doctoral levels and advising graduate students in their research and training. High quality teaching (at both graduate and undergraduate levels) and research are both needed to obtain tenure. The social psychology division is one division of two in the general experimental program (the other is developmental psychology). The other three programs are clinical, counseling, and health psychology. The Department has more than 40 fulltime faculty members, 120 graduate doctoral students, and more than 1600 undergraduate majors, and has a focus on community and health-related research. Applicants should submit a cover letter, current curriculum vita, contact information for at least three references, and (uploaded as one document in the “Other Document” section) a statement of research interests, teaching philosophy and interests, and representative publications to the following website: https://www.vcujobs.com. Additional information about the Department and the program can be found at psychology.vcu.edu. Application review will begin October 15th and will continue until the position is filled.
