I'm wondering how many applications you submitted and how many interviews you did before you got a position?
Over 4 years I submitted ~35 applications got 3 interviews, and after the most recent interview, I received a accepted a job offer.

I was on the job market for 5 years. Here is a summary (interviews/applications):
Year 1: 1/15
Year 2: 0/5 (highly selective search that year)
Year 3: 0/25
Year 4: 0/30
Year 5: 5/21
Overall, 6 interviews out of 96 applications. In Year 5, I received and accepted a tenure-track offer at an R1.
Year 1: 0/2
Year 2: NA (didn't apply)
Year 3: 1/9
Year 4: 3/20
The count for the final year isn't quite right, because I withdrew a bunch of my applications before interviews were announced after accepting my top-choice job.
I got a job on my first year on the market, but I applied in subsequent years for personal reasons and accepted another job in my third year of the first job.
Year 1: 4/~25 I pulled out before it was over. There were an additional 3ish jobs that I was in the running for with phone interviews that I dropped out of, but I'm just counting campus invites. I went on two interviews and received both job offers. The other visits were too late for me to attend them.
Year 2: 0/1
Year 3: 0/3
Year 4: 4/8 I went on 3 of the 4 visits and was offered each job.
Looking at this I realize my numbers are quite good but I self-selected away from R1s because they're not my style and I wouldn't have a shot at them anyway. I also struck out at all elite SLACs that I applied to. My first and current institutions are both regional universities with 6/yr course loads.
Two years on the job market, all tenure track positions at R1s. Applied during my 5th year of graduate school for year 1.
Year 1: 2 interviews out of 9 applications
Year 2: 5 interviews out of 10 applications
Got 1 offer.
Only posting this to show progression from year to year.
phone/campus interviews/applications (TT offers)
yr 1: 0/0/7
yr 2: 3/2/15 (1) accepted VAP at elite SLAC over tenure track at regional university [crazy, but family constraints]
yr 3: 4/3/9 (2) very selective search — only went for SLACs, no R2 or R1.
For those just finishing your first or second year on the market—I found that I was a much more desirable candidate each year, both because my CV was building and because my interview skills were developing. So there's hope even if you didn't get a nibble this year :).
yr 1: 4 on campus/0 offers/24 apps (I wound up with a VAP though- this count was for TT positions only)
yr 2: 0 on campus/6 applications (However, I actually applied to 8 places and had on campus-interview at one, which I removed myself from running. The other application/position wound up in an "a bit-too-late" on campus interview invite- I had an option for a second year in my current position as a VAP, which I accepted just a week or so prior to invite).
I applied for the first time during my internship year (I'm in clinical) and got 0 interviews. I don't remember how many places I applied to, but less than 10 and I knew it was a long shot. I took a clinical research postdoc and applied again for 2 more cycles. Agree with the person upthread who said it gets better every year, both in outcomes per application and in the quality of places that were interested in me. It really does suck to do it over and over, though, and I'm really lucky that I had my own funding, so I could stay employed, and a supportive/flexible partner.
year 1: 2 phone/2 campus/13 applications (no offers)
year 2: 11 phone/2 campus/40+ applications (1 offer)
I applied to R1/R2 places with graduate programs in my area with no geographic restrictions. I also applied to some med schools that had TT positions. I should add that I withdrew from three searches before campus interviews and heard from another place that appeared to be dipping back into its pool for campus interviews after I accepted my offer.
