I hope the forum members can help me out some here. I am currently serving on a search committee and our ad says we will start reviewing applications on Oct 1. We are quite surprised that right now we only have about 5 applicants, whereas in years' past we usually get many more, even two weeks out from the due date. Any insight here? I will say this is probably the earlier in the cycle our ad has ever been up, and it's possible that some people don't yet have their materials ready for the cycle (i.e., if most of the earliest due dates are Oct 1, then most people are timing it to get everything done and in starting Oct 1, and will likely apply early to other later positions but on time or late to ours).
**More specifically, if you're applying for any Oct 1 jobs, did you already submit your materials or are you still working on them and going to get them in very close to the deadline?
Are there other factors we might consider?**
