How often does this happen? You submit early and hear from school before the official review date. A really good sign? Or don't read too much into it?

I had 5 job offers over two searches. Once I was contacted before the deadline. I took it to be a good sign and it was. It turned into an offer and of the five, it was the most enthusiastic, even though all offersas they should bewere enthusiastic ones.
If you've been contacted for an interview before the deadline then you should take it as a good sign. You can't count on anything, but what it does mean is that they chose to fill up an interview slot with you even before knowing what the final surge would provide. That's pretty amazing. I expect it is also pretty rare.
By the way, I said yes and it has turned out great.
