For those who have gotten interview invites (phone, skype, or on-campus), how did you get the news? Was it an email or a phone call?

It's common to receive calls or emails for invitations.

So far this year I've received 4 phone interviews and 1 on-campus interview (without phone interview). All phone interviews were invited by email, while the on-campus interview was offered via phone call.

In my case, 100% of phone/skype interviews were offered via email. Maybe 75% of on-campus were by email.

4 phone interviews via email
2 campus interviews: 1 via email and then followed up with a call; 1 called first (I was out of office) and then emailed

3 campus interviews; one via email (was a follow-up from phone interview), other two also via email (one with a follow-up call for more details)

Interesting thread. (I agree with the general sentiment that it's a little bit of both.)

Now, as follow-up question: When people get offers, do they usually get a phone call or email? And does that contact come from the search chair or the dept chair?

In my case a committee member called me right after the vote and told me to stay quiet. I then received a phone call from department chair with official offer.

Other offer was a call from Dean.
