Responsibilities
APPLICATION DEADLINE: The search will remain open until filled. First consideration
will be given to applications received by December 1, 2015. Second consideration
may be given to applicants received by January 1, 2016. Applications received
subsequent to the second consideration date (January 1, 2016) may not be given full
consideration.
The department of Human Development and Family Studies at the University of
Rhode Island seeks applications for a nine month, tenuretrack
faculty position at the
Assistant Professor level, to begin August 2016.
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in early child development, such as
infant and toddler development or nutrition, health and safety of young children;
conduct research, develop grant proposals, and publish scholarly work; participate in
the early childhood education teacher certification program team; advise students;
engage in university, statewide, and local service and policy activities.

Required Qualifications REQUIRED:
1. Doctorate (Ph.D.) in child development, early childhood education (0 to 8) or
related discipline by time of appointment;.
2. Demonstrated expertise in child development from birth to age 5;
3. Demonstrated involvement in relevant professional organizations;
4. Demonstrated evidence of ability for successful teaching at the college level;
5. Demonstrated ability to conduct research and potential to produce scholarly
publications;
6. Demonstrated excellent writing and communication skills;
7. Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications PREFERRED:
1. Demonstrated expertise in early intervention/developmental disabilities in young
children and/or demonstrated expertise in health, nutrition and safety of young
children;
2. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills;
3. Demonstrated experience working with young children (birth through age 5) in an
early care and education setting;
4. Demonstrated experience with a campusbased
child development laboratory;
5. Demonstrated evidence of highly effective teaching of child development or related
courses;
6. Demonstrated record of scholarly publications;
7. Demonstrated success or capacity for success in grant writing and/or securing
external funding;
