
The Department of Psychology at Florida International University (FIU) is searching for qualified individuals for a Postdoctoral Associate, a research position. The position will be housed in the Substance Use and HIV Neuropsychology (SUHN) laboratory at the Center for Children and Families (CCF) at FIU (http://ccf.fiu.edu).
Qualified applicants will have a PhD in Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Neuropsychology, or Psychology and experience in conducting human subjects’ research in the areas of substance use and/or HIV, strong quantitative skills in longitudinal data analysis, an educational background that includes neuroscience training, and a strong track record of scholarship in refereed journals.
The FIU SUHN Lab (http://suhn.fiu.edu) houses several NIDA-funded studies on drug use, addiction, and neurocognition. It also serves as a site for the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study: a landmark multi-site NIH study to assess the short- and long-term impact of substance use on brain development (http://addictionresearch.nih.gov). The post-doctoral research associate will provide scientific support primarily to ongoing research studies, including one on neurocognitive antecedents and consequences of adolescent cannabis use and another on neurocognitive effects of cannabis use on persons living with HIV.
The Psychology Department has 38 tenure track faculty, 8 instructors, and 5 research faculty, more than 148 graduate students spread across five doctoral specialty programs and a masters program, 10 full time undergraduate advisors, and 4300 undergraduate majors. The department is young and vibrant, with 27 new hires in the past 4 years, the vast majority being assistant professors, but with well-established and well-funded senior faculty in each area. Currently, department faculty hold over $40 million in grants from federal agencies (e.g., NIMH, NICHD, NIDA, NIAAA, IES, NSF, DoJ).
