Position Summary The Human Development and Family Studies area invites applications for a 9month
tenure track position in Early Childhood Development at the Assistant Professor level,
with the appointment beginning in Fall 2016. Expertise in child development (birth – 8
years) or early childhood learning is required. Responsibilities include teaching,
scholarly activity, student advising, and service to the department, college and
university.
Required Qualifications •Expertise in child development (birth – 8 years) or early childhood learning;
•Earned doctorate or ABD with degree awarded by date of hire with at least one
graduate degree in child development, early childhood education, human
development and family studies, or closely related discipline;
•Competence in subject matter as evidenced by relevant course work;
•Evidence of teaching effectiveness;
•Affiliation with relevant professional organizations;
•Evidence of potential for successful research and/or scholarly activities;
•Evidence of effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications •Evidence of ability to teach a constructivist approach to learning, developmental
assessment and other human development and family studies courses;
•Relevant professional experience working with children and families;
•Demonstrated commitment to diversity through teaching, curriculum development,
scholarship focus and/or service.
•Experience teaching and developing online courses.

About the Department The Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) area includes 30 faculty
positions, 18 of which are tenured and tenuretrack,
serving approximately 700 majors
and minors. We offer academic programs in Child Development, Early Childhood
Development and Learning (including a teacher certification program), Family
Studies, and Gerontology.
HDFS includes the Child Development and Learning Laboratory (CDLL), an early
childhood setting serving approximately 68 children and their families in several
programs such as Head Start and a tuitionbased
preschool. The CDLL serves as a
research and training site for faculty and students.
HDFS is located in the Department of Human Environmental Studies (HEV) which has
