RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Engility is looking for a Cognitive Theorist. The qualified applicant will become part of Engility’s highly skilled multi-disciplinary team of physicists, biomedical engineers, vision scientists, biologists, and other specialists on the Optical Radiation Bioeffects and Safety Program. This is a $35 million, 78 month contract to conduct research on the personnel effects of lasers and broadband optical technologies, ranging from collateral risks from high-energy lasers to nonlethal applications for force protection and homeland security. The work is conducted for the Air Force Research Laboratory in the Tri-Services Research Laboratory located at Joint Base San Antonio, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
This position will support a basic research program within the Air Force Office of Scientific Research “Trust and Influence” portfolio, which seeks to provide the empirical foundation for the science of reliance and contemporary influence. The research is focused on the science of influence effects, particularly the psychological and behavioral impact of directed-energy weapons at the individual level, and on understanding the cognitive and social avenues of influence in different cultural groups.
Roles and Responsibilities
Develop cognitive models for both internal and external processes, including social and group interactions.
Perform literature searches, and use analytical methods to select best cognitive theories for application in numerical models.
MINIMUM TANGIBLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be able to obtain/maintain a Secret Clearance.
PhD in Cognitive Psychology, Experimental Psychology, or Social Psychology, plus 1-2 years of experience in experimental work in a laboratory environment.
Strong fundamental understanding of appraisal theory.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong interest and/or experience in quantitative analytical methods.
Development experience as an intern, employee, or volunteer.
Experience in working with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, physicists, and mathematicians.
