I have had a paper published, one accepted (in-press), and an invited revision for a single author review paper in a pretty good journal since my last set of applications. One senior faculty at my current institution who is a reference suggested I contact outstanding search committees/chairs about these updates. In the case of a failed or late search with little traction, this might bump me into an interview slot. I have interviewed in-person at 2 places this cycle. One is a definite no, and the 2nd is a place that I am not as interested in as I would be some of the institutions I have applications out to that I have not heard from. Is it worth it to try this tactic? I have not heard any stories about something like this working but really curious because my colleague made the suggestion. Let me know what you think.
