Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship
Developmental Psychology at the University of Michigan
Applications are now being accepted for a 2-year NICHD post-doctoral research fellowship in Developmental Science at the University of Michigan. Pending final budgetary approval, the Developmental Area within the Department of Psychology will award up to 2 post-doctoral fellowships with a possible start date as early as September 2016.
The objective of the fellowship is to train individuals across three pillars of knowledge: (1) the developmental science of social context (e.g., families, social-communicative context, culture, socioeconomic status, media, and social cognition); (2) aspects of human developmental neurobiology (e.g., brain imaging, genetics, epigenetics, and endocrine function); and (3) advanced research methods (e.g., quantitative statistics appropriate for combining and analyzing longitudinal data from different levels of functioning). This cross-training will produce researchers well-positioned to develop cutting-edge work that advances knowledge about how neurobiological factors interact with environmental contexts to influence development across several domains.

In addition to core faculty in the Developmental Area, the training grant includes five additional investigators at the University of Michigan: Bill Gehring (Psychology), Richard Gonzalez (Psychology), Colter Mitchell (Institute for Social Research), Patricia Reuter-Lorenz (Psychology), and Sari van Anders (Psychology).
Candidates will identify two advisors (at least one will be in the Developmental Area); one advisor will provide training in developmental science of social context and the other in human developmental neurobiology. In a research statement, the candidate will describe a project that combines these areas of research. It is suggested that the candidate discuss these plans with potential advisors. Fellows are expected to be actively engaged in research during their appointment and will receive additional training in the responsible conduct of research, grant writing, manuscript preparation, and professional development.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in psychology, human development, human neuroscience, or related fields, and have a record of research accomplishment in child or life-span development. The individual must be a US citizen or a non-citizen national of the US or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the US. Salary is in line with NIH pay scale. Offer includes full UM health benefits and travel to one conference per year.
