Is it me or are there fewer jobs posted on the wiki than there were this time last year? I know it's still early and I know more jobs will get posted for sure, but if memory serves me there were more cognitive and neuro jobs last year at this time? Does anyone by any chance know? Maybe my memory is way off!
are you looking at different websites as well? i think there are more posted on highered, psychscience, and the chronicle, than there are on the wiki. also, the wiki typically explodes in september. i typically check at the 1st and 15th of each month because i've noticed a surge in postings around those times. and, it could be your particular field. each year seems to have a different research theme.
Yeah I've looked at some of the other websites and haven't really found jobs there that aren't on the wiki (at least for my field). Oh well, hopefully it picks up some!
I really haven't noticed many postings this year. I'm currently in TT at a liberal arts teaching school, but am interested in applying to more research jobs. I'm glad I got this job when I did! I don't notice nearly as many postings this year
Overall, it seems similar to previous years. You can look at the previous years' Wikis for comparison. In general, anything with an October (probably November too) deadline will have been posted by about now or 9/15 at latest. @Vapanon (above) is right, too. There usually are posting surges around the 1st and 15th of each month, but not all months are equal in my experience. Usually September and October are a bit more active. December can be an okay month, too, for positions that plan an early spring search.
Finally, biggest advice I have is that if you are open to positions outside of the R1 world, then don't give up until the academic year is near concluded. Several positions at SLACs or regional universities, especially in less desired locations, will not succeed with their fall searches and may repost come December or even January/February. Furthermore, many positions may well be filled by faculty who are making career moves between institutions. In such a case, their present institution may need to start a search late fall or during the spring. So, if you apply broadly, you can still find opportunities as late as March or April.
Good luck.
