Right now I'm at 23: 12 SLACs, 4 RIs, 7 Regionals.
I already have a tenure track job - so I am doing a limited search. I applied to 6 so far - all Research Universities, and plan to apply to 2 more. When I went on the market the first time 3 yrs ago I applied to 55 jobs.
wow, 55? I don't think there are that many total available right now for my discipline (social). May I ask how many interviews you got out of those 55?
So far…(sigh)…according to the Carnegie Foundation Classification system,
4 post-docs
11 SLAC's
15 Research University/High Research Activity
16 Research University/Very High Research Activity
3 Doctoral/Research Universities
3 Master's Universities (Smaller Programs)
4 Master's Universities (Medium Programs)
11 Master's Universities (Large Programs)
For a grand total of 67 jobs so far. This is insane!!
wow 67?! I'm guessing those are Cognitive positions? I don't think other disciplines even have that many openings.
Yeah, my research is multi-disciplinary and I can actually fit in a number of departments, including psychology, human development, cognitive science, education and communication sciences. Most people I have talked to who have tenure-track faculty jobs applied to somewhere in the ballpark of 10 to 30 jobs. Given the academic job market last year, I didn't want to take any chances so I applied to everything that I could remotely fit, sort of casting a wide net. We'll see if this plan actually works. :)
LOL… I wish there were 67 cognitive positions out there. I figured that the 67 must reflect multiple disciplines.
I've applied to a whopping 2 jobs thus far… I will likely apply to another 2 recent postings.
