Hi all. I've been noticing most of the comments are from experimental people instead of applied (especially I/O psych). Are there many of you out there on this wiki? I don't often run into many I/O people staying in academia, so any advice tailored to this specialization would be much appreciated! I'm targeting SLACS, ideally with Master's programs.
I've seen a lot of job candidates over the past few years for positions at my own university (medium sized research institution) and many top candidates don't seem to have many publications or teaching experience…which I hear isn't that uncommon due to a lack of postdoc positions in our field. In comparison, I feel like I should be competitive, but I have a small sample size! As an ABD, I have 8 published/in press articles in decent personality, health psychology, and organizational psychology journals, two years of primary instructor teaching experience (and counting), and even some applied experience as a research consultant. I'm only applying to a few jobs this year due to 2 body problem constraints (different field), so I suppose I shouldn't expect too much success my first year trying. Anyone else have experience in the I/O market?
