I'm new to this process and am wondering how long after the application due date does it typically take for interviews to be offered? I'm trying to figure out if not hearing from a school means that they're still processing applications or they declined to invite me for an interview. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
This can vary tremendously. Looking at past Wikis and my search cycles, I've had phone/Skype interview requests come through as soon as 1 to 2 weeks after submission deadline but others not come through until a couple of months later. In general, the timeline gets faster after December. What you may find is that places with October deadlines will try to interview before Thanksgiving. Once you get into November 15th or so, the hiring process will start to stall only to resume quickly in mid January. As for rejections, don't hold your breath. Incredibly, I was still getting rejection letters a full academic year after sending my applications. It was pretty amusing since I had fortunately had successful cycles. Good luck!
In my experience, first contact occurred from 2-6 weeks following the application deadline. First contact might happen earlier if the school is going to do skype or phone interviews (with a pool of about 10). If they have to whittle it down to 3-5 applications before contacting anyone, it might take a little longer.
