Has anyone heard any rumors about the University of Oregon search? The job was originally posted with an oct 15th deadline. It's now December and no one on this wiki seems to have been contacted. Given the number of Social superstars that seem to be gracing us this time around, that seems a bit odd… Though perhaps in the current economic situation it is not so odd after all.
I have a friend in the clinical department there, and the searches have not been cancelled! But they sure are dragging their feet.
I know that one similar program received 177 applications… Also, one insider mentioned that UofO had started evaluating candidates in mid November. Maybe it takes time…
Thanks for bringing that up. I also applied and did not hear anything back, so I'm happy to get that information about the delay in the review process.
Yeah, I think if we haven't heard we should assume rejection at this point. I can't believe how many well qualified folks are getting left out. So sad…
I know nothing about this search in particular, but I disagree about assuming rejection. Things can get hectic, and now we're at the end of the semester so things may have to wait until January.
Looks like somebody posted an update and a campus interview has been extended.
If we were practical people, we'd assume rejection always! The odds of getting any of these jobs we apply to are far less than the odds of most of my results being due to chance. It's a bummer, but it's true….
In fairness, if we were practical people we wouldn't have entered academia :)
A faculty member (who is not on the search committee, though) let me know today that a candidate had been invited to give a job talk at the University of Oregon Psych Department.
U of Oregon has already set their interview scheduled, and confirmed the dates with the candidates. So if you have not received an invitation to interview, you are either long-term shortlisted or will not be contacted.
