The University of St. Francis invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Psychology to begin August 2017. This is a tenure-track position with a 24-credit-hour teaching load per academic year (August to May), with a competitive compensation and benefit package.
USF offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs serving traditional-aged and adult students through a variety of learning formats. Small class sizes and a student-centered philosophy characterize the USF experience. The Department of Psychology offers three undergraduate major degree programs: Psychology (B.A.), Substance Abuse Counseling (B.A.), and Industrial/Organizational Psychology (B.A.); and two undergraduate minor degree programs: Psychology and Gerontology.
The university is located in a residential neighborhood 35 miles southwest of Chicago with satellite locations in downtown Joliet, IL and Albuquerque, NM. The surrounding Chicagoland area offers robust park and recreation resources, major league sports, cultural arts, museums, festivals, shopping, restaurants, and two major airports.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Teach 12 credits each semester in Psychology, including introductory psychology and courses from among the topics of social psychology, developmental psychology, gerontology, industrial/organizational psychology, and general education/foundational courses; provide student advising and mentorship; engage in appropriate service and scholarship necessary for success on the tenure track; demonstrate commitment to building a collaborative and collegial environment.
Minimum Requirements: Applicants who are ABD will be considered; strong preference for candidates with Ph.D. in hand by start date.
Evidence of effective and successful teaching in higher education.
Ability to conduct scholarly research and publish in peer-reviewed outlets.
Established record in scholarship, teaching, and service commensurate with rank.
Preferred Requirements: Ph.D. in Psychology or related discipline.
Strong evidence of effective teaching in higher education.
Strong record of scholarly publications.
Record of successful experience with external funding.
Hours/Shift/Work Schedule: This position is full-time, August to May, with potential administrative duties. We offer a competitive compensation and generous benefit package.
Physical Requirements of Position: Work is performed in classroom and office settings with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Substantial time is spent working on a computer. This work requires the following physical activities: sitting, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity.
