The Arizona Twin Project housed within the Department of Psychology at Arizona State
University has positions open for two postdoctoral fellows, each with funding for two years with
the possibility of a third year (salary in line with NIH postdoctoral stipend levels and includes
benefits). Essential qualifications include evidence of research productivity, experience with
child/adolescent populations, a strong quantitative background, and a doctoral degree in
psychology or closely related field (i.e., child development, sociology, neuroscience, statistics)
by the (negotiable) start date. Desired qualifications include experience with geneticallyinformative
designs, and experience with pediatric sleep, health, and/or pain.
The federally-funded Arizona Twin Project is an ethnically diverse (40% Hispanic) longitudinal
twin-family study focusing on the impact of genetics and the early environment on the
development of physical (i.e., sleep, pain) and mental (i.e., mood and behavioral) health
problems and disorders, as well as processes of resilience. The twins are currently 9 years of
age and we have funding to follow them annually for the next four years with home visits
including physiological and observational assessments.
These are training positions with dedicated time for analyzing data and authoring research
papers stemming from the project. Post docs can expect training in interdisciplinary science,
quantitative methods, research ethics, obtaining a research-intensive academic position, twin
study design, ecological momentary assessment, physiological stress activity, and health
(especially sleep, pain and mood/behavioral disorders).
