Transcripts - send with all apps?

I am wondering if I should be sending all my transcripts from undergrad, masters and Ph.D. with every application. This gets expensive…
Do you send all your transcripts with every application?

I think you should send your transcripts only if the school explicitly requests them as part of your application materials.

I've never had to send transcripts with an application; the schools I typically apply to (R1 schools) do not ask for them. However, I have seen job ads from more teaching-oriented schools that request transcripts.

I agree with vd to only send transcripts if they ask. I'm at a SLAC and we are required by our admin to ask for transcripts. We only want graduate transcripts, not undergrad. And, we're happy to accept unofficial copies with the application so I wouldn't pay for official transcripts unless the ad specifically asks for one.

I would just send unofficial transcripts to those places who explicitly ask for them. Many of the fine print in the ads state that they'll accept unofficial, but if being considered they will want official.
