Does anyone who applied to the U Penn clinical job know if the site has requested letters from the recommenders yet? My recommenders say they haven't seen an email, I am not sure if it got lost in their email or if it hasn't been requested. Thanks.

You don't want to go there. But I guess if/when you get an interview, you will discover that for yourself.
Does anyone know what to do about these letters? My recommenders never received a request for letters, and as far as I can tell there is no way to send a request nor to upload a letter. Plus, there is no contact listed and UPenn is huge so tracking down the appropriate person might be a challenge. Any ideas?!?!? I realize they have been focusing on a more advanced person, so this is probably a moot point anyway… but I feel like my application is hanging out there incomplete.
For what it's worth, I don't think there's any other way of sending in reference letters. On the website where we upload our application, all it says is:
Note that for some University positions we may contact references immediately, and for others we may not contact your references until a later stage in the process.
I took that to mean that if they thought you looked interesting on paper, they would contact your references.
Btw, if you don't mind my asking, where did you hear about the more advaned candidate?
Sorry, I shouldn't have said that about the advanced candidate as I really have no clue. I think I may have heard that on here last year, and so I ASSume since they did not fill that position and appeared to re-open it this year the emphasis will remain on more senior candidates.
As another curious applicant, are the politics there that much worse than other departments?
My impression is that yes, it is that much worse than other departments.
I can't comment on the politics but my letter writers have not been contacted either…
Just wondering if anyone has heard anything more about this search …
