Anyone heard anything yet? I saw that they were meeting 10/21, but I would have figured we'd be hearing about phone interviews/short lists by now.

The Human Developmental position? I haven't heard anything. Can I ask where you saw the meeting info?
It's listed on the Wiki….and a friend there also told me they would be meeting soon, but didn't give an exact date (this was a couple weeks back).
I applied for that one too and have heard nothing but did see the posting about the meeting info.
I applied but did not hear anything beyond what I see on the wiki. I don't think I am all that good a fit for that position, but I applied because I can't really tell exactly what they are looking for or what direction they are going in. Anyone have more specific info on that?
I know some people in the department. My understanding is that it is truly open and there are folks lobbying for various disciplines (social-emotional, cognitive, psych & law, neuroscience). The department has quite a bit of cognitive people, so I wouldn't be surprised if they went more social emotional. I think I also heard the campus is getting a FMRI (previously only at the med school in NYC) and they are also hiring a senior neuroscience person, so there might be a push for that as well. Since there are two positions I wouldn't be surprised if it went 1 social-emotional and 1 neuroscience.
From what I have heard there was supposed to be at least one additional meeting after last weeks meeting, but I haven't heard any updates about whether there is a short list yet.
Thought take all this with a grain of salt - since this is largely second hand info and based on what I know from the people I know in the department.
Anonn Y. Mouse, That's kind of what I figured, but only by guessing based on their recent hires, etc…. so thanks for your perspective on that.
When I spoke to a friend a couple weeks ago they also indicated it was wide open.
Anyone heard anything about this position lately? It's been 6 weeks since the deadline, just curious.
I have heard through the grapevine that the shortlist is close to being finalized. I heard that they got a huge number of applications (like around 250), so if this is true of other developmental programs it may explain part of the silence.
I cannot even imagine how much work that is for the committees. Yuck.
So, if the shortlist is around 12 people, we have about a 5% chance of making the short list. Is that correct? It's a bit of a sobering thought:(
I believe that the shortlist for Cornell is 6-7 people (who will be invited for a campus interview). From what I have heard that is the stage they are in - picking the exact people they will be bringing in. AND they have two openings, most other places will have probably 3.
Wow….that is crazy that they had so many applications and is a REALLY scary thought. I hope that someone will post something soon about whether contacts have actually been made.
I haven't heard anything. Everything seems to have been pretty quiet the past week or so…
I hope so!!! The silence has been deafening for developmental programs.
I take solace from the lack of updates on the main page. I don't mind the silence as much knowing I'm not alone:)
It does seem like developmental postings are especially quiet. I do expect things should pick up in a week or two. I imagine most places that had Nov. 1 deadlines or earlier will contact candidates before Thanksgiving. My hopes will stay up until I see updates posted. (Though I AM working under the assumption that everyone who might be contacted for an interview is on the wiki updating - which might be a foolish assumption….)
anon2: I also take comfort in that! I figure silence is better than an update saying someone got an interview and it wasn't me.
Anonn: There are still a bunch of October developmental deadlines that haven't had movement. Although we're not likely the only ones applying, it does seem likely that we'd hear updates somehow.
I heard they had over 250 applications, and a lot were bad fits- straight social people applying for a developmental job, that sort of thing. It seems like they've almost come to a decision, but I haven't heard if they've started to make interview offers yet, sorry.
Thanks dev candidate for the update. It's been so long past their deadline…I hope they get something together soon! Would like to know either way.
Anonymous, can you elaborate a little bit more? Any smidgen of information is highly valued;)
OK, so who is going to bite the bullet and contact Cornell? Anyone? Anyone?
I actually contacted a professor in their department (but not the search chair) yesterday about the status of the search and haven't heard anything back yet. I will update the forum when/if I do get any info.
The search chair is super nice - I would go ahead and contact him.
I applied for the position. I know the search chair personally and he sent me a personal email about a month ago telling me they had whittled it down to the final 6 or 7 applicants and I was not on that list (largely due to overlap with my research area and current faculty there). He did say at that time that some things were still up in the air. There were getting some late applications, so possibly that threw a wrench into things. It is also possible that they were told that they could bring in a smaller number of candidates (because it was for two positions I think they were planning on a larger number). That being said, I do not think they are actually still reviewing applications because I know with certainty that one of the search committee members is currently out of the country for a few weeks. I would email him, but since I know my own status in the search, that would seem weird.
Do you mind sharing who the search chair is? I am happy to e-mail but am not sure of the contact.
I think someone about to accept another offer should email the SC and check it out. That would seem a legit reason for contacting them.
I got in touch with a friend in the department who has confirmed that interview invitations have been made.
Thanks for doing that. I figured at this point, they had to be interviewing… so it's good to know for sure!
