I saw on here that several folks applied for 40 upwards of 80 jobs! Now I must admit I have lost count personally, but I think I am around 20-25. For grad school and internship, the point of diminishing return was around 12 applications but I'm guessing it's different for faculty jobs.
I think it would be interesting (fun? perverse?) to see what are the stats on how many jobs people are applying to this year, and in what field. Maybe folks can volunteer:
a. how many jobs they are applying for this year (to date)
b. how many interviews (phone, campus, otherwise)
c. how many rejections (letters or from this wiki)
d. how many offers
e. your primary field
My stats are 25:2:8:0 and I'm clinical
I'll tally them up in a week or two — it will be wildly unscientific, but hey, it will give me a legitimate reason for checking here 2x daily.
