I'm just curious…where'd y'all find out about this Wiki?

(Just wishing there was activity like this last year)

While in London last summer, we met with a philosophy PhD who went to college with my wife. He mentioned the job wiki for his discipline and upon returning home, I found the one for Psychology.

I found out about it last year when I was just dipping my toes in the market and reading the forums on The Chronicle's website. People were mentioning 'wiki-rejections' and I had no idea what they were talking about. I googled it and found the psychology version that way. I mentioned it to a few of my mentors, and they had never heard of it.

I've been following the wiki (in its various incarnations) for about the past 5 years.

According to Google Analytics, about 29% of the visits come from web searches, most involving the keywords "psychology jobs wiki" (or variants of that). Another 6% come from links from other sites (other wiki pages, Facebook, Twitter, etc.). The remaining 65% of visits are direct, presumably because people have bookmarked the site.

I found it from friends who were on the market in previous years. I loosely followed it last year just to see what this year might be like.

I tell everyone I know about it though!

By the way, Google Analytics is great to have on a personal page while you're on the job market. I see hits (usually in groups of 3-4 googling my name…search committee size!) from universities I applied to about a week or so before I get a good news email/phone call.

Brilliant idea using google analytics! I found out about the wiki through a grad student in our department, and have also told everyone I know who is on the market.

On my personal website I use StatCounter, which serves a similar function. In a few cases I've been able to figure out who likely visited my site, based on the university network they were on.
