I was unhappily surprised to see that more postings weren't listed today. I assumed that Sept 1st would be a big day for postings. Will we see more this month?

it's possible that more jobs have been listed, but just haven't been added to the wiki yet? I was actually thinking this has been a really good year so far compared to the last two or three years…
ditto anotheranon. A lot of jobs weren't actually posted last year until October and November.
Now that I've taken a closer look at my list of jobs (i.e., jobs for which I will apply), there appears to be a slight improvement in the market, at least for me. At this time last year I had 14 jobs on my list; currently, I have 17 jobs on my list.
I agree with vd on this one. For me, it looks a bit better. There are more quality schools this year too! I'm hoping to see more though!
As a social psych job seeker, it seems like this is very much a down year for social unless you identify as social neuro. However, there seem to be lots of neuroscience and cognitive positions this year. For those who have seen multiple years on the market, do you often see similar ebbs and flows with regards to postings in particular areas? Or is this a sign of things to come (i.e. social departments not expanding relative to other areas of psych)?
to anny: Last year was decent for social, which may mean that the current poor market is a consequence of lots of places filling positions during the 10-11 search season. Interestingly, a number of the postings in social so far are re-posts (e.g., Rochester, Missouri, Tennessee) that obviously weren't completed last year. I don't entirely know what to make of that, but it does suggest this would be an even worse market is not for these positions remaining open. Maybe it will get better? Nevertheless, good luck!
I think it's still a bit early. We just got permission to recruit for a social psychologist tenure-track line, so we'll be posting our ad in the next day or two. I imagine other places are at a similar stage. Don't panic yet. :)
