any advice on the following topics would be greatly appreciated. I do understand that R1 and liberal arts schools have somewhat different agenda etc. and I will tailor my app materials accordingly but a few general questions:
Is there an unspoken length expectation for cover letters and teaching statements for R1-LACs? I'm thinking 1 page for cover letters for either, 1 page teaching statements for R1 but longer (2 page) teaching statement for LACs?
Is there an appropriate place to discuss courses I'd like to teach? Cover letter or teaching statement? How much or how little should be said in that regard?
Also, I've been teaching undergrad stats for some time but I am not very excited about the prospect of teaching it in the future. Would you recommend to include stats under "Teaching Interests"? So, I want the "she-teaches-stats" to be a positive thing to note about my app but without the "she-wants-to-teach-stats-here" component.
I've been teaching online courses for the last year (I'm doing a postdoc currently) and I have in-class teaching experience from grad school. Obviously these are different teaching environments and I thought to have separate sections in my teaching statement to talk about similarities and differences… But I am also wondering whether I should discuss teaching online in my LACs applications at all — they are all small-classroom schools and online teaching may be of interest only to R1-R2 schools. Advice?
