Do search committees typically send invites for phone interviews all on the same day, or do they occasionally spread out the invite notifications over several days? That is, if I see on the wiki that a phone interview was scheduled, does this essentially verify that I am not on the short list or that school? Or is it possible to receive a phone interview invite still down the road? Thanks for sharing any advice/experience!

I've seen cases where people were invited for interviews in Oct/Nov and then others weren't even contacted until Dec. So I wouldn't lose hope if you haven't heard. You just never know. If you see interview invites now and don't hear anything by January, then you can probably assume that you're not going to get interviews.
@anon, similar happen to me last year. I saw on the wiki that someone received a phone interview but I did hear about one until a month later. So, as guest has said, don't lose hope!
Although a person may occasionally receive an invite weeks after the initial invites go out, it is still fairly uncommon. I am considering places that have already sent out invites as "as good as gone" for me. (I think that is a more realistic conclusion to make.)
I'm sure there are always cases where enough phone interviews don't go well (or some of the people they contacted first already took other jobs), and then they need to do more to decide who to bring in. So I wouldn't lose hope just yet!
I'm trying to find other ways of deluding myself that a school I want to call might still call: What is the typical number of phone interviews that a school will conduct? 3, 10?
I am sure this varies by the number of applications, how many people they will bring in for in-person interviews, and the strength of the current applicants. For the searches I was involved in conducting, we phone interviewed 10-15, I'd say. Probably mostly up to the search chair, and department precedent. Most places bring in 3 candidates for in-person interviews it seems for most positions, so they'll want some wiggle room. Plus phone interviews CAN make or break candidates… It's stressful to be sure.
Usually we will call the people on our long list (say, 5-10 candidates), from which we will bring in 3 for campus visits. We might not make all those calls the same day (often there are different members of the search committee making the various calls), but we try to get them all done within a few days.
