Hi everyone, I am the search chair for the cognitive psychology position at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. I was an active user of this site just two short years ago when I embarked on my own job search, and thought I would make myself available here for any questions about the Shenandoah position.
A few bits of information not in the ad…
SU is a regional comprehensive university with several graduate and professional programs, but in the College of Arts & Sciences, quality liberal arts teaching is our priority. Service is a close second. Research, while it is necessary for promotion, is not our focus.
Besides the courses listed in the ad, candidates who can teach research methods will be viewed favorably.
Class sizes are small - PSY 101 has our highest cap in the psych dept at 24 students. Technology is a big theme here - all incoming first-year students are issued Macbook Pros as part of their tuition, and faculty are expected to incorporate technology into their courses.
The city of Winchester is small, but has a fun historic downtown area, and all the big-box stores one could need. While we're not considered part of the Northern Virginia/DC sprawl, we are close enough (70 miles or so) to take advantage of its resources. Dulles airport is about an hour's drive away, and traffic is rare on the way. I moved here after living in Chicago for 10 years, and have minimal complaints.
Note: apparently I am not allowed to post links in the forum - our ad is posted in the Chronicle and HigherEdJobs. It's linked from the main wiki job listings page too.
