I saw on the Wiki that someone received a phone interview invite with The College of New Jersey (for their open area position) on October 28. Now, over two weeks later, I (and others, it seems, judging by the Wiki) just received an application acknowledgment e-mail. The deadline was October 1 so it's a little curious to see the application acknowledgment come many weeks after the first phone interview. Anyone know if they are just a little behind in sending the acknowledgments, or are they perhaps dipping back into the pool? (I mention the latter for hopeful reasons.)

Rumor is that they are also doing on campus interviews at the same time. Not sure if this school has any timeline for stuff at all.
They are not dipping into their application pool…at least not yet. I was the one who wrote the lengthy update. I got a notification a month and a half after I submitted the application stating that they acknowledged that I submitted my application, but that they received it late. Well it was half an hour late. My bad, but I didn't think that "review of apps starts 10/1" meant DEADLINE 10/1 and that I'd be out of the running if I sent in my application late that night, which was a Saturday. I stupidly thought that all of the 10/1 deadlines really meant 10/3 (that's how the April 15th deadline for taxes works when it's a weekend). In at least one case I was right because I submitted a 10/1 app a few days late and got a campus interview anyway, but TCNJ got so many apps that they wanted to cut it off somewhere so they used midnight as a deadline. Understandable, in a way, given that their position was listed as "open" so I'm sure they got a bazillion apps. If I'm on the market again next year I'll just get my materials done faster…I'll have a template from this year at least.
I applied on time (12:45 PM on Sat 10/1), but also only received acknowledgment in mid-November. In the acknowledgment, they noted that 3/4 rec letters were not received. After some back and forth, they "found" my emailed letters. I take the lesson to be that I should apply earlier than the day of the deadline.
I emailed my application materials ahead of the deadline, on September 21st. I also sent an updated vita on October 26th. But, I never received an application acknowledgment. So, I'm not convinced that applying on or after the deadline has anything to do with when or if you receive confirmation. Perhaps if you received any correspondence from them at all you should count yourself lucky; this might mean you're on a "long short list."
