That's not my impression. Someone on the search committee suggested I apply for it. (I did not.)
LOL…maybe you were the specific candidate! Do you have any insight into what kind of person they were looking for (research expertise)? Also, do you know anything about the School of Ed.—good place for junior faculty, appreciation of research, etc? I know very few people who have had direct interactions with the School of Ed (most are familiar with the Dept of Psyc)! TIA!
All I heard is that they have a somewhat "liberal" definition of learning sciences. I don't think my research qualifies as learning sciences, but was told I should consider applying. And for the record I'm positive I was not "the specific candidate." : )
I would definitely say that they have an appreciation of high quality research. I've known of at least one junior faculty member who was a good and competent researcher there who did not get tenure. I'm not sure about the overall climate in the Department—I've never heard anything either way.
