Most job ads ask for 3 letters of recommendation. I have 4 people I'd like to submit letters on my behalf. Would it be bad form to have all 4 submit letters? Do search committees mean they want exactly 3 letters, or at least 3 letters? Any advice is much appreciated, especially from faculty who have served on search committees.
Under the "General Discussion" section, there is a very recent posting addressing this issue with 11 posts. It is called "Submitting more letters?"
Exactly 3 letters - otherwise we will randomly choose 3 to put into your file for the committee/department to look at.
