Anyone know about this school? Does it have any graduate programs? What is the teaching load like? What is the area like? I'm trying to decide whether to apply.

can only comment that Humboldt State is part of the publicly-funded California State University (CSU) system which (along with the UC system) has consistently received state-funding cuts since 2009. The outcome of the Nov 6 election (specifically Prop 30 needs to pass and Prop 32 needs to fail) will dictate whether some of the drastic cuts will be restored, or if the trigger-cuts will go into effect.
this is something to consider — I experienced a 10% paycut (furlough) in first year hired (2009) to a CSU school. we have had no cost of living increases/raises in the four years that I've been at a CSU… and there's no sign of them anytime soon. class sizes are increasing, tuition is increasing, if the propositions for tax increases don't pass, more cuts/layoffs/reduced benefits will happen.
DO MORE WITH LESS is the NEW NORMAL.
