No, but I am also interested in knowing the status of this search, which seems to be a repeat of last year's search.
Last year the received 300 applications and didn't hire anyone so I believe they are looking for something very specific.
Quite frankly, if they cannot find someone they like out of 300 applications in a buyer's market, then that's just pathetic.
Last year they interviewed several people who they liked but the person they initially offered it to turned them down and the other people they had interviewed had already taken other posts. So it's not that they couldn't find anyone. It's that their interviews were later than others' and they ran out of time because the people they interviewed were obviously competitive elsewhere. I'm assuming this is why their search this year had an earlier deadline. Hopefully for their sake they can review applications faster this time and do the interviews earlier.
asstprof: Thanks for the additional context, which tempers my reaction to Neuro's comment. I also hope Penn's search process is faster this time around.
It is somewhat remarkable that they failed to hire with so many candidates in this market. I understand why, but still.
