Review started 11/15. Anyone hear anything from this search yet? Also, anyone hear anything from Vanderbilt Neuroscience (12/1)? Thanks.

Neuro—Thanks! You'd think that they would try to get something narrowed down before the holidays but maybe that is just too quick for the academic timeline. I have a campus interview scheduled for January but I am really hoping that some of these later searches will move quickly too. I don't know about you but I would like this job hunt to be over.
Definitely. I have had some interviews already but am still waiting to hear from a bunch of places. It is taking forever! And then I heard that some places that have already contacted people for interviews could end up dipping back into the pool in the spring if they don't secure one of their top candidates…I really don't want this to drag on for 9 months…
I saw that purdue might dip back into their pool, but any other gossip-y type info on other places that might not have successful searches? AND—who the heck are these people that they will turn down t-t offers in this market. Seems weird.
Worried, I think people who turn down offers are probably those who have other offers. It seems like each year there are a couple of people who get many interviews and multiple offers (although of course it's hard to tell given the anonymity of this board). It may also be that for one reason or another, the university/setting/department/whatever is such a bad match that the candidate just can't make it work.
You also have to keep in mind that many people in the field may have significant others who need to find academic or non-academic positions and if they can't make it work for both then they might turn down offers. I guess it is also possible that places would bring people out for interviews and decided that none of them quite fit what they were looking for and this caused them to dip back into the pool?
