My ideal job would in a Selective LAC (so, nationally recognized school) that had resources to support undergraduate research. Anyone know of the chances a TT assistant prof moving from a regional masters university to a nationally recognized SLAC? I wonder if the regional masters school may be looked down on as a less good school and, therefore, if moving to SLAC would be considered a move UP. Moving up is always harder than moving down, so I'd appreciate any insights. Thanks!
yes I think that this happens. I don't know if they might see it as a move "UP"; probably. I mean, a move to Williams/Amherst/Swarthmore/Pomona/Wesleyan from pretty much any "masters" institution will be considered a move up. But a move to, say, Connecticut College or Kalamazoo (still selective LACs) might not be seen quite as much of as a move up.
