Hi all. Not to sound like an ungrateful jerk, considering the job climate, but I am considering leaving my TT job (I'm in my first year) for a post-doc. I like my job fine, but I hate the location, and my spouse can't find a job (and he hates the location too). We'd both prefer to be closer to family, or at least in a more metropolitan area where his job prospects might be better. (He's non-academic.) I've sent out a couple apps for other TT jobs, but also plan to apply for a post-doc of sorts (involves teaching and research). Considering I already have a TT job, I have two questions:
1) Am I totally bat-sh*t crazy for even considering this? I know it's a risk, but I really think this post-doc would make me a much more competitive candidate.
2) If I am not crazy, and if I do apply, should I explain in the cover letter why I want to leave a TT position? I guess a related question is, do you think the SC will think I'm bat-sh*t crazy for applying when I already have a TT job?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts…
