I know this topic has come up before but it was mostly in terms of accepting a position and then applying for new ones three plus years later. So for instance, you go on the market, accept a position, and then "THE ONE" position that you hoped you would have seen the year before is posted. It isn't academic-market bliss because you just began or are about to begin the position you accepted. Would it be advisable to apply for this new position? I understand that having no references/letters from your current institution is a red flag, but given that you just started the position it may be tough to ask for such references. Does anyone had experience with this situation?
Do not worry, I'm not in this position as I have another year until I go on the market. But I'm so worried about going on the market, accepting a position, and then seeing the perfect position advertised the summer before starting my new position.
