Perhaps I am wrong but it seems like there are fewer jobs listed at this point than there were last year. Do folks have a sense of whether this year will be a "down" year? Not that the last few years have been "up" years.
Someone has said that every year for the past 3 years. Turn that frown upside down.
I thought the first few positions were posted earlier this year than the previous two years, but I do think it has slowed down a bit. I have a feeling it'll pick back up.
I'd at least wait til Aug 1 before I started throwing myself of buildings.
When I was on the job market a couple of cycles ago, I made a map with all positions I applied for and updated it throughout the job market. Jobs across the West and, especially South, were slow to appear until mid-autumn. Then, in October/November, quite a few started to appear all at once. Be patient, there's plenty of hiring season left.
Thanks all for your thoughts regarding the rate of job postings—I will turn that frown upside down (@heh). Good luck to everyone in their job search.
I know this is neurotic and appreciate the sentiment from others to chill out. But, I'm also starting to feel nervous.
Come on, search committees! You have anxious applicants out here. :)
Wait a week… there's usually a bunch of new jobs posted at the start of August.
It's still very early. Most people are on vacation these days and in September and October the bulk of ads show up.
