Note that we successfully hired NINE new faculty (most with a Health Psychology focus) in 2012-2013 who started in Fall 2013. The position advertised here represents further growth for our department.
The Department of Psychology at Texas Tech University is seeking candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Counseling Psychology.
The anticipated starting date is August 20, 2014. Applicants should have a strong, programmatic research focus with the potential to attract extramural research funding. Texas Tech has undertaken a major initiative that is enhancing our position as a national research university in Texas. TTU is currently in a major growth phase and a period of major opportunities for our faculty. The institution has a clear mandate, as described in our strategic plan, to work toward becoming a great public research university.
Our intent is to bring to Texas Tech an outstanding and collegial faculty who will fit into our academic culture, with a focus on funded research, excellent graduate and undergraduate mentoring and teaching, national service and engaged outreach. We seek a strong researcher in any area within the field of Counseling Psychology; however, we have a particular interest in individuals researching topics in multiculturalism and health psychology, or who are able to collaborate with current faculty (including 9 new hires) focusing on health psychology.
We have a strong commitment to diversifying our faculty and strongly encourage applications from members of diverse groups. Applicants should also have the ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels (including practicum) and be willing to contribute service to the department, college, university, and profession. Candidates must receive their PhD from an APA-accredited Counseling Psychology program by August 2014.
The Counseling Psychology Doctoral Program at TTU has been APA-accredited since 1964. We have seven full-time faculty positions with wide-ranging research interests. The Program is committed to fostering knowledge of and appreciation for diversity in faculty, students, and clients, and express this via coursework and practica.
The TTU Department of Psychology (depts . ttu . edu /psy/) has doctoral programs in counseling, clinical, cognitive/applied cognitive, human factors, and social psychology. We currently have 32 full-time tenure-track faculty, 110 doctoral students, approximately 1,000 undergraduate majors, our own building with labs and classroom space, and a newly-renovated Psychology Clinic. We have effective working relationships with the TTU Health Sciences Center, several large area hospitals, and numerous psychological-service groups in the region. TTU is classified as a doctoral “research-extensive university” by the Carnegie Foundation and as a “national research university” by the State of Texas.
TTU is growing rapidly with over 33,000 students on the main campus and almost 5,000 students at the adjoining TTU Health Sciences Center campus. With a population of approximately 230,000 people, in an ethnically-diverse community, Lubbock is a pleasant city with a low cost of living, temperate climate, modern airport and infrastructure, and good school districts.
