Last week, I had a really good phone interview with a research school. At that time, they seemed to imply that I would be on the interview list. Basically, they wanted to know whether I would still be available if they scheduled the interviews in January. At that point, I said yes, because it was true. However, they said they could move up the process if I ended up with interviews this year. Several days later, I got a call inviting me to interview at another comparable R1 school and that they would like to schedule the interview in the next two weeks. Thus, I immediately emailed back the first school and let them know this. The chair of the search seems to have ignored my email and I am not sure how to take it. I am wondering if I completely misread the phone interview. Any thoughts on what I should do next? Should I just proceed with the second school and not worry about the first one? Should I follow-up with another email or phone call?
