I come from an accredited program, but I decided not to pursue an accredited internship because I was accepted at a research center that is world-renowned for their research and cutting-edge new therapy designs. I will be doing clinical work in combination with research. Given that its experimental and not accredited, would that hurt my application?

I think it depends on the institution and what they have in mind for what you'd be doing. How does an unaccredited internship affect licensure (I honestly don't know the answer)? If they want you to supervise graduate practicum students than I imagine that is going to matter. If not, it may not matter at all. (Many junior faculty in clinical are given course reductions and other considerations while they train for the licensure exam and conduct supervised practice with the goal being future capacity to supervise graduate students).
