I am seeing that many of the jobs in my area (developmental) have no status updates (not even interview info). These are jobs with November/December deadlines. Is it possible that these schools actually have not contacted potential candidates yet? How common is this? Does it ever happen? It just seems so late and probably to the disadvantage of the program to not get moving on the search sooner.

Uh, don't want to burst your bubble but I don't think the traffic on here is as large as it once was. Also, some people just don't want to put up any updates. To be honest, I could add information about 2-3 searches (in Developmental) but just don't care to anymore. Maybe now I will.
Please update when relevant. It is a big help to those of us still waiting on specific jobs, and only takes a minute to do. Why not, when you are obviously still benefiting in some way from this page?
I don't get it. If you don't care to update these searches, why even mention it in the forums?
Because I don't mind answering a direct question. I'm sure many people on this board keep information to themselves for other reasons then indifference just fyi.
Well, duh, they do. But my point was why even say that you are keeping it to yourself? Doesn't make much sense…
Sure… it probably has more to do with boosting your ego that you, and only you (or a small handful of individuals), know what's going on. That's my suspicion. You could have said, "Some people keep updates to themselves" to accomplish your goal, rather than "I could add information about 2-3 searches but I don't care to."
I agree with dev-postdoc's take. Anon didn't even answer the OP's question as much as provide some ego-boosting bullcrap.
