Assistant Professor of Psychology
The School of Arts and Sciences within the University of Bridgeport announce a full time, visiting opportunity in the department of Psychology commencing fall 2014. The preferred credential is a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from an APA approved, doctoral program (ABD, with evidence of degree completion prior to the start date, will also be considered). Areas of specialization within the clinical area are open, but an interest in Health/Wellness Psychology or related area is desired.
The ability to teach undergraduate Research Methods and Statistics is required. Strong preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching, service to the University and an active program of scholarship with undergraduate involvement. Exceptional candidates from other areas of psychology who bring other interests or specializations will be considered.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach a normal teaching load of 24 credit hours per academic year in Abnormal Psychology, Research Methods and/or Statistics, as well as other undergraduate courses in the specialty area of the candidate.
Develop and deliver innovative curriculum and teaching strategies to support underprepared or novice students.
Hold regular office hours and spend time on campus as required by the faculty handbook.
Advise and actively coach students on academic issues, class scheduling, as well as career and graduate school preparation.
Integrate undergraduate student involvement in scholarly pursuits, especially through conference/poster presentations and other formats.
Participate as a departmental and program representative on standing and ad-hoc committees within the School of Arts and Sciences and throughout the University.
Help develop and coordinate a shared research laboratory in behavioral/social sciences.
Develop an active scholarship program in psychology and disseminate findings to a larger audience, through publication in peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations, and other discipline relevant outlets.
Participate in the hiring or supervision of work study students and graduate assistants.
Actively participate in a team oriented, supportive program to help retain novice and underprepared students.
Participate in teaching or supervising graduate counseling students, if interested.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
